It was all in all logical, although the surprise remains significant. Amazon will sell cars directly on the American version of its Amazon.com website starting next year. For the occasion, the e-commerce giant has teamed up with Hyundai, but other brands will follow during 2024.
This announcement was made during the auto show currently being held in Los Angeles. Concretely, customers will be able to search among different models and select finishes, colors, and other characteristics of the vehicle. They will then make the payment directly on the platform. Then, their order will be delivered directly or it will be possible to pick it up at a local dealership.
Bonus Alexa features
Precisely, Amazon and Hyundai seem keen not to upset these local traders. Indeed, unlike direct sales models, cars sold will be credited to the local dealership. The latter will therefore be considered as the seller of the model in the statistics.
This partnership between Amazon and Hyundai will have another advantage for consumers. Indeed, the Tech giant will allow users to have access to the hands-free features of Alexa, its connected speaker.
Enough to simply listen to music, audiobooks, and podcasts, and other queries and questions that may prove useful. It will also be possible to ask Alexa to start the heating in your home, if you have a smart home.
As you might expect, this agreement delights Andy Jassy, CEO of 8217;Amazon. In a press release, the leader welcomed: “Hyundai is a highly innovative company that shares Amazon's passion for trying to improve and make customers' lives easier every day.”
He adds: “Our broad strategic partnership should do just that, changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online, simplifying the use of Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home settings and calendar checks, and enabling Hyundai to transform its customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS.”
