Thanks to the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple is one of the leaders in mobile photo and video. Indeed, to date, only two smartphones do better than the firm's latest “Pro” models, according to the DXOMark ranking (the industry benchmark): the Huawei P60 Pro and the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+. And obviously, for 2024, Apple already has a plan to maintain this place, or even do better.
Same resolution, better sensor
The iPhone 16 series will only be released in September, but many rumors are already circulating about it. A priori, like its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max should have a 48 megapixel main sensor on the back, according to these various rumors. However, while retaining this 48 megapixel resolution, Apple would offer more advanced technology.
In an article published this week, the site Wwcftech relays new information which would have been shared by Digital Chat Station (a source which is regularly cited by the media) on the Chinese social network Weibo. According to this new information, instead of using a Sony Exmor IMX803 sensor (that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max), Apple would equip the iPhone 16 Pro Max with a 48-megapixel IMX903 main sensor, which is its version improved. This sensor would be a little larger, but it would allow significant improvements in photos and videos. And moreover, Apple would present the iPhone 16 Pro Max as a “standard bearer” in the field of photography.
A second 48 megapixel sensor?
In addition to this new main sensor, Apple could also rely on a improvement of the ultra wide-angle, to boost the quality of photos and videos on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Indeed, previous rumors have indicated that the firm should equip the iPhone 16 Pro Max with a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor instead of the 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Otherwise, Apple should also be able to rely on powerful photo processing capacity. The iPhone 16 Pro Max could be equipped with an A18 or A18 Pro chip, engraved in 3 nm.
