Even if the iPhone 16 series is only released in the fall, there are already many rumors about it circulating on the web. And as we approach this date, these rumors are more and more numerous. For example, new rumors recently emerged about the specifications of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. If this information is correct, these two models could ultimately be very interesting, contrary to what has been suggested by other sources.

Indeed, until now, everything suggested that the iPhone 16 series could benefit from few new features. In 2024, Apple would mainly focus on the software part of the iPhone, as well as on the introduction of generative AI. But according to a recent article from 9to5Mac, which relays a note from analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could ultimately offer significant developments in terms of the technical sheet.

A18 chip, 8 GB RAM?

If we rely on Apple's habits, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus should use the processor of the iPhone 15 Pro. But Jeff Pu indicates, for his part, that these two models would instead use a whole new generation of Apple Silicon chip, called A18. In any case, the base model of the iPhone would use, for the first time, a processor engraved in 3 nm, which would improve performance as well as energy efficiency.

And that's not all, since Apple would also increase the memory. Like the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus would indeed equipped with 8 GB of RAM memory. And this should also help improve the performance of the base models, which are the least expensive in the series.

Finally, in terms of connectivity, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would be compatible with the Wifi 6E standard. On the iPhone 15 series, this standard, which allows for faster, more reliable WiFi, and with less latency, is reserved for Pro models.

Des features still reserved for the iPhone 16 Pro

But while improving the performance of the base models, Apple will still have to justify the price difference between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro. And as a result, there will remain many differences between them. For example, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would use an A18 chip, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could use a more efficient A18 “Pro” chip.

On the other hand, in terms of connectivity, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could adopt Wifi 6E, it is possible that Apple offers an even higher standard, Wifi 7 (whose certification begins this year) on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. And regarding 5G, Apple could equip the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with a new Qualcomm modem, the Snapdragon X75, which is compatible with “5G Advanced” technology.

Of course, there should also be a significant difference between the camera of the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It is rumored that in addition to the 48-megapixel main photo sensor, these two Pro models could also have a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor (instead of 12 megapixels).

< ul class="tldr">

  • According to new rumors, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could ultimately be very interesting
  • If Apple equips these two base models with the A18 chip and 8 GB of RAM, they could benefit from a significant performance gain compared to the 2023 models
  • In addition, in terms of connectivity, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could be entitled to Wifi 6E
  • On the other hand, some features will be reserved for iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
