Why the triumph of the electric car is irremediable ?

This is a study that is closely scrutinized in the industry. According to the Automobile Platform, this organization which brings together large companies in the automotive sector in France, the share of electric models in car sales was 16.4% in France in January 2024, compared to 20% in France. % at the end of last year.

The rise is confirmed

Subsequently, a series of other research showed a slight decline in sales of green vehicles. However, we must take a little distance from these figures and look at the long term. This is precisely what a new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) allows, which predicts that global sales of electric cars will be very solid in 2024 with 17 million units sold.

Overall, this market is boosted by China where 10 million of these vehicles are expected to be sold, or 45% market share. In the United States, this level will be one in nine. Europe, where several governments have nevertheless reduced their aid, is also doing honorably: one car in four.

Quoted by our colleagues from Elektrek, Fatih Birol, executive director of the IEA, is very optimistic for the 'future:

The continued momentum for electric cars is clear in our data, although it is stronger in some markets than others. Rather than running out of steam, the global electric vehicle revolution appears to be preparing for a new phase of growth. Based on current policies alone, nearly one in three cars on the road in China by 2030 is expected to be electric, and nearly one in five in the United States and the United States. ;#8217;European Union.

The challenges of the electric car

He adds: “This development will have major consequences both for the automobile industry and for the energy sector”. And precisely, the IEA is well aware that this development will not happen with the wave of a magic wand. The international organization therefore urges States to ensure that the availability of public charging corresponds to the growth in sales of these vehicles. If these areas are increasing steadily, they will have to be multiplied by six by 2035.

Electricity networks will also need to keep up with the increase in demand. And this is not an easy task, we remember for example that certain American states such as California have already had to restrict the recharging of these vehicles in the summer due to consumption peaks created by the heat and the use of air conditioners.
